Every Day Spanish Idioms


Learning idioms in other languages can be fun and interesting! In order to speak like a native, idioms are essential to learn and understand. There are hundreds of Spanish idioms and if you try to understand them literally, they make no sense at all! Here we give you a short list of common Spanish idioms that can be used in every day conversation…

 

Estar sano como una manzana

“To be as fit as a fiddle”


Está lloviendo a
cántaros

“It’s raining cats and dogs”

 

No tener pelos en la lengua

“To be straightforward/ to say it how it is”

Example: Mi amigo no tiene pelos en la lengua

                           My friend says it how it is

 

El mundo es un pañuelo

“It’s a small world”

 

Costar un riñón

“It cost me an arm and a leg”

                           Example: Mi móvil nuevo me costó un riñón

                           My new phone cost me an arm and a leg

 

El que la sigue, la consigue

“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”

 

El tiempo es oro

“Time is money”
